Inclusive Outdoor Activity Sessions
We are proud to be working in partnership with Somerset Activity and Sport Partnership (SASP) to offer fantastic 2 hour inclusive outdoor activities for young people with a disability and their siblings/families. These sessions are aimed at ages between 8 and 18, and commence during the school holidays and on alternate Saturdays during term times. Participants and their families must live in Somerset in order to access these sessions.
In these sessions based at COACH in Taunton, participants will engage with a range of either land or water-based activities on each session, which are designed to provide an inclusive and accessible way of bringing the benefits of outdoor learning to all.
BBC Children in Need and Short Breaks fund these fully inclusive activities for young people with a disability and their siblings/families.
Channel Adventure Ltd is a specialist provider of Outdoor Education, Recreation and Leisure. The founders are qualified teachers with an absolute conviction that outdoor learning is an invaluable part of a young person’s upbringing and, crucially, a lifelong approach to skill development and healthy lifestyle.
What happens in each session?
Each 2 hour session engages participants in a variety of activities. We try to make sure that activities are different week to week, to minimise participants repeating the same activities and enabling them to try a range of both land and water-based things each time they come.
Water-based activities could include:
– Stand-Up Paddle-boarding (SUP)
– Mega SUP (group paddle-boarding)
– Sit on Top Kayaking
– Open Canoeing
– Raft Building
– Inflatable Rafting
Land-based activities could include:
– Knife & Axe Throwing
– Tree Climbing
– Team Challenges
– Power Kiting
– Mountain Biking
Each session is all about lots of fun and having a go! Participants to learn through a range of games and challenges, that in turn will enable their confidence to grow.
